T'XAS and other rusted features

For those of you who don’t know, Courtney and I moved down to Denton Texas this summer where I will be starting my DMA and teaching at the University of North Texas. It’s a good school, and I’m excited to be working with such a great faculty.

Anyone in the area should look out for some big band shows in the DFW metroplex. We’re planning on doing one in October and one in November, so keep an eye out. I’ll also be playing a TON of quintet shows with my good friend Aaron Hedenstrom and some of the other UNT jazz faculty so that will be a blast too.

So what I’m sure you guys have all figured out is that I am TERRIBLE at updating a blog. I usually am good with daily upkeep types of things, but usually the consequences of not completing things like composing or trumpet result in not being able to play the horn or worse, showing up to the gig with no charts to play. With this blog business though, there is nobody breaking down my door looking for the next post so I usually forget about it.

Despite my difficulties in the blog department, I will be getting several posts out this summer: another Woody Shaw post, a Jim McNeely post, my take on trumpet method/ practice habits, and on networking and hustling gigs. I’ve got all of these things percolating, and I’ll have some writing time this month so after much ado I’ll finally get this stuff out there on the Internets.

The recent K2B tour went well. Not only did we play some packed houses at awesome venues, but because of our recent success we're going to be doing a big winter show in Minneapolis this year with some HEAVY guest artists. I'll be sure to keep you updated on those dates as they become available.
